NewsNational chef award for Bedford College studentBedford College student, Amy Garner, has won the National Afternoon Tea competition of the Craft Guild of Chefs held in London. Amy was given a “Masterchef” challenge of producing mouth-watering teatime treats in only 3 hours to include a selection of finger sandwiches, savoury and sweet scones and tarts, a decorated Victoria sponge cake, a fruit cake and a variety of teas. In her first year of a 2 year Hospitality course at Bedford College, Amy has won a week’s work placement in the House of Commons, tea for two at the Ritz and a magnificent trophy. She aims to follow in the footsteps of chefs that give her inspiration such as Jamie Oliver, Gordon Ramsey and Delia Smith, and says: “It was a quite a nerve racking experience taking part in the competition, but as soon as I got to work in the kitchen the nerves vanished. It was a very good experience and I have learnt lots. I want to get out there as a chef and improvise my own dishes. My dream is to own my own restaurant.” |
