The Boar's Head Ceremony
The boar’s head was often eaten during the Christmas season and was always the main dish wherever it was served. Boxing Day was traditionally the day when servants and masters changed roles in some of the great houses of England and, as the boar was eaten as part of the Christmas Day feasting, so the head was saved for the revels the next day. In Bedford, the ceremony has been revived for many years now and the hotel management and staff, together with the Bedford Morris Men intend to maintain the tradition with carolling and dancing.
