Bedford Guided Walk 'The rise and fall of Bedford Castle'
A Royal Charter, a not so ‘civil’ war and a castle removed stone by stone. View the site where Bedford’s motte and bailey castle once stood and enjoy views over the River Great Ouse from the recently restored castle mound.
Frosts Chilli Festival
Join Frosts at Willington for a sizzling August bank holiday with their 3rd annual Chilli festival, which this year plans to be hotter than the last. From Saturday 25th August to Monday 27th August Frosts will be presenting their biggest Chilli Festival yet with even more to entertain the whole family. Over the weekend there will be exhibitors from all over the country, live Mexican music from ‘Mariachi el Mexicano’, live cooking demonstrations plus products from all around the world. There will also be children’s entertainment and games taking place throughout the day. You will also have the chance to take the heat home with some of the world’s hottest chilli plants including the feared ‘Naga’ and ‘Trinidad Scorpion’, on display to admire and buy! During the weekend the Garden Room Restaurant will be serving-up a chilli inspired menu with the Chef’s chilli specials, you will be able to sample our homemade chilli chutney, and for all those daredevils – the world’s hottest chilli! Twinwood Festival
Twinwood Festival incorporates the Glenn Miller Festival of Swing, Jazz, Jive and Rock ‘n’ Roll. This is THE largest and best, annual, vintage music, dance and fashion festival in the UK. With air displays, hangar dances, fashion shows, comedy shows, trade stalls, dance lessons & workshops, food and bars, museums, living history, classic vehicles, camping and more. With nearly 80 performances over the festival, there is always plenty of choice to suit all musical tastes. Max Raabe & The Palast Orchestra, John Miller & his Orchestra, and Si Cranstoun, are just a tiny sample of the exquisite selection of bands who will be performing in 2012. The historic Twinwood Festival site, is unique and creates an atmosphere unlike any other venue. On the two main stages the emphasis is on non-stop, high quality music from many top orchestras and artistes performing the great hits from the big band, swing and Jive era. Alternative indoor venues within the festival site include: the 'Hangar' (40's dancing), the 'Marquee' (Rock n Roll), the 'Tin Hat' (Swing and Jazz) The 'Cafe Bois de Jumeau' (Chanson et Musette from the 30s to the 50s including Hot Club, Gypsy Jazz, and Piaf etc.) 'The Casablanca Club' (based on the film, step back into Wartime Morocco) and The 'Open Mic Club'. Twinwood Festival has earned a reputation of being THE best music festival of its kind in the country, and always sells out well in advance, so be sure not to miss out and book your tickets early! Rhythm Festival
August bank holiday just wouldn’t be the same without the Rhythm Festival and this year promises to be bigger and better than ever before! There will be three separate ‘villages’, centred around the Folk Festival Stage, the Rhythm & Blues Stage and the Big Rhythms Stage. All three share better children's areas, camping and accommodation facilities as well as food stalls and indoor attractions like the Tavern Bar and Comedy Theatre. Weekend passes are available for all three combined or for individual areas.
