Things to Do

Parks & Gardens

Whether in town or in the countryside you will notice that the area has a wealth of parks and green open spaces
From the formal gardens adorning the town and lining its urban riverscape to the rolling acres of the country parks, there is something for everyone, providing opportunities for relaxation, family fun, exercise and adventure

Award Winning Parks
Blooming Bedford may have been a well-kept secret for many years but with last year’s Best in Region award and three consecutive years as a Britain in Bloom national finalist, Bedford is becoming widely known as one of the top locations for beautiful planting and parks. Why not pay us a visit in 2012 to gather you own memories of Bedford in bloom and discover why Bedford was picked by Britain in Bloom as presenting one of country’s best floral displays in 2011? (We were shortlisted as one of the top four floral displays in the country and came second by a whisker!)

Riverside Parks & Gardens
The river corridor of the Great Ouse is lined by some of the town’s loveliest green space with Victorian embankment, tree lined promenade, ornate bridges, bandstand and medieval castle mound; providing opportunities for sport and relaxation, enhanced by formal and informal gardens

Priory Country Park
A short walk beyond the Embankment takes you into Priory Country Park where the countryside meets the town; a place to find an unexpected mix of energetic water sports, angling and quiet secluded lakes managed for wildlife.

Bedford Town Centre
Throughout the year, town centre planting lifts the spirits of even the most jaded shopper. In Bedford you’ll still find bold spring bulb and summer bedding displays leading the way to the Tourist Information Centre where more information and maps of the town’s parks and gardens can be picked up.

Bedford Park
Another lovely green oasis founded by our Victorian forefathers. Still boasting many of its original features whilst serving the needs of today’s visitors with Robinson Pool sited in the southern corner and a large state of the art play area nestled in the trees at the eastern end.
