Bedford has a great sporting tradition that spans the decades and can count many former Olympians as its sons and daughters; probably the best known of these is Paula Radcliffe MBE, women's marathon world record holder and Life Vice President of Bedford & County Athletics Club. The award winning Bedford International Athletics Stadium is home to the athletics club and has acquired a reputation as one of the finest facilities of its kind in the UK including 8-lane, floodlit, mondo track, athletics field events area, indoor sports hall with 60 metre sprint track and eight badminton courts as well as an American football pitch and two full size floodlit rugby pitches.
